Care of Tulsi Plant (Holy Basil) | Tulsi Plant will Never Die Again

 Tulsi is Holy plant in India. It is worshiped by people. It has uncountable benefits in human body. It is known as Holy Basil in English and Tulasi in Sankrit. It is a plant of Ocimum genus. Most variety of this plant are native to India. It is a annual herb that may grow up to 3 feet.


From Ayurveda to modern medicine, Tulsi have been used in antibacterial and immunity boosting medicines. It is also helpful in losing weight. There are four types of Tulsi that found in India.

  • Steps of growing Healthy Tulsi:

Pot: The pot size where it is to be grown should be minimum 8 inch. You can go with bigger pots but below 8 inch is not preferable.

Soil: Soil of Tulsi should be light, porous and well drained with added organic manure like cow dung compost or vermicompost or any other compost. Sticky clay like soil is not good for Tulsi, otherwise root rot may occur.

Water: For every plants (not only Tulsi), the best technique of watering is to water the plant when its soil become dry. You can dip your finger in the soil, if you feel dry, then water. Always keep in mind that over watering can cause rotting in roots.


Pinching: Pinching method is very useful and essential for making a Tulsi plant healthy. You have to pinch off the flowers or seeds of Tulsi; otherwise, it may think that it has completed its life cycle, so it will be dying.

One more benefit of pinching is to make your plant busy. When you pinch of the head of a branch of Tulsi, you will see two or three branches will generate from there, thus you will get a bushy leafy plant.

Sunlight: Tulsi likes moderate sunlight. So, it grows best in indirect bright sunlight but you can keep in direct sunlight for two-three hours as well.

                    

Fertilizer: Tulsi likes balance fertilizer which has equal amount of N-P-K. For Tulsi, using organic fertilizer is best like using one hand-full of compost or vermicompost once in a month. Liquid mustard cake fertilizer or liquid cow dung fertilizer will be also good Tulsi which will fulfill the need of micro-nutrients as well. But, using one or two table spoon of micro-nutrients once in a month is also a good practice for Tulsi plant.

Pest control: Secret of having any plant healthy is to prevent pest attacks and diseases. So, using Neem oil solution is Tulsi once in a month will almost keep all the pests away.


Tulsi plant is one of precious gift of our mother nature. We should care this plant, we cannot imagine how beneficial and lucky as per vastu it is.
